These are the new opportunity occupations for which you can use the Opportunity Budget

Because the labor market is always changing, every year the UWV comes up with a new list of opportunity occupations for the year. This year 3 new opportunity professions have been added for which you can use the Kansberoepbudget. Want to know which professions these are? Then read on.

What is an opportunity occupation?

An opportunity occupation is one that is in high demand and where you have a high probability of getting a job. It is an occupation that is future-proof and job-secure.

What are the new opportunity occupations?

At the MBO level, a number of new opportunity occupations such as:

  • Mechanic comsumer electronics, for example, a telephone repairman.
  • Hairdresser
  • Dental Technician

For each profession, we explain what exactly you do, what training you can take, and how to use the Opportunity Budget intelligently.

Consumer electronics technician

A mechanic repairs and installs appliances such as televisions, computers, washing machines, telephones and audio equipment. You look for malfunctions, replace parts and explain to the customer. You work here both in a workshop and visiting people's homes.

Why is this an opportunity profession?

As electronics play an increasingly important role and the demand for smart devices increases, there is a growing demand for specialized mechanics. There are many job openings, so there's a good chance you'll get a contract.

Training

Because the training must be specifically focused on electronics or electrical engineering, consider the following courses:

  • MBO-3 Electrical Installations (BBL): hands-on learning in a recognized apprenticeship.
  • MBO-4 Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics: more theoretical, more broadly applicable.
  • Education or courses focused on consumer electronics

What do you learn?

  • Troubleshooting and troubleshooting
  • Assembling, installing and adjusting devices
  • Giving customer advice

Hairdresser

Hairdressers cut, color and style hair for men and women. You advise clients on grooming and products. Specialty occupations, such as men's hair stylist and beard care, are becoming increasingly popular.

Why is this an opportunity profession?

There are many staff shortages among hairdressers. Many hair salons are looking for new employees and especially BBL students. This makes it an attractive profession with good opportunities for advancement.

Training

To become a hairdresser, you can choose from, for example:

  • MBO-2 or MBO-3 Hairdresser (BOL/BBL)
  • BBL: 4 days of work, 1 day of training. So you get salary while you learn.
  • BOL: Mainly training, with a stagen. You will receive an internship allowance for this.

What do you learn?

  • Cutting and coloring techniques
  • Blow drying, updos, braids and perms
  • Customer contact and sales

Dental Technician

A dental technician makes technical dentures such as crowns, bridges and dentures. You work alongside a dentist. Because there is a lot of aging in this industry and an increased demand for care, more and more dental technicians are needed.

Why is this an opportunity profession?

There is a huge shortage of skilled workers. Both BOL and BBL students can quickly find work after their education. In addition, there is a lot of aging population.

Training

  • MBO-4 Dental Technician (BOL or BBL). You can go in the direction of crowns and bridges but also in the direction of dentures for teeth.

What do you learn?

  • Working with plaster, ceramics, metal and plastic
  • Digital design and production
  • Precision work and quality control
  • Working with a dentist or lab

What can you use the Chancellor's Budget for?

The Opportunity Budget is an allowance of up to €1500 that you can use for such things as:

  • Training costs
  • Learning resources (books, tools)
  • Additional subject-specific courses

You decide which training or course suits you best. ‍The budget is available for temporary workers who are currently working or have been working for no more than four weeks and are max. MBO-4 educated.
