Tired at work? Here's what you can do!

You may recognize it: you struggle to get up to go to work and at work you're still so tired that the coffee can't be had.

Everyone is tired from time to time. But being tired at work every day is not good for your health. You may also become less observant and make more mistakes. Especially if you are a temporary worker, it is important that you take good care of yourself. As a temporary worker, you work a lot of varying hours. Therefore, it is important that you take good care of yourself.

Why are you so tired?

There can be many reasons why you are tired. For example:

Not enough sleep

This can be due to an irregular sleep rhythm. For example, because you have to work at different times or because you go to bed too late.

Worry

You worry about money, work or things at home. This makes you think a lot, which is not good for your sleep.

Unhealthy lifestyle

You don't exercise enough, eat a little less healthy, drink a lot of caffeine or alcohol.

Physically demanding work

Your body gets little time to rest from the effort you have to put in at work.

What can you do yourself to be less tired?

Fortunately, you can already do a lot yourself to get more energy:

Sleep at set times

It may sound logical, but try to go to bed and get up around the same time every day. Even if you work irregular shifts.

Put your phone away

The blue light coming from your phone causes your body to produce less melatonin. This is a hormone that makes you sleep easier. Try putting your phone away about an hour before you go to sleep.

Pay attention to your nutrition

Eat healthy and regularly. Avoid foods and drinks high in sugar, fat and caffeine late at night.

Exercise regularly

Walking, biking or exercising helps you sleep better. It also gives you energy. Win-win, in other words. Even if it's just a short walk around the block, get moving!

Take breaks at work

Just sitting down or taking a short walk helps your body rest. Also, make sure you take your breaks on time.

Talk to someone

Notice that you often have less energy? Tell your supervisor or your temp agency. They can help with solutions and who knows, they may be able to adjust your work schedule.
